Monument Excavation Permit
Overview
Survey monuments are physical markers that define property boundaries and land divisions. They are legally protected. It is a violation of state and local law for any person to disturb, destroy or even cover a PLSS monument without first notifying the County Surveyor and taking out the necessary permits (see UC 17-73-502, UC 17-73-503).
How to Apply
- Download & complete the Monument Excavation Permit form
- Provide project details and monument information, including:
- Location (address or GIS number)
- Monument type and location (corner, section, township, range)
- (You can find this using Corner Report)
- Upload your completed form
- Pay the required fee
Fees
$400 per monument affected.
Disturbing a monument without a permit can result in fines up to $50,000 per monument.
